The Center for Art and Media (ZKM) in Karlsruhe,Germany holds a unique position in the world for The development of interdisciplinary projects and promotion of international collaborations. The Center for Art and Media has a number of resources for the development of interdisciplinary projects and promotion of international collaborations: the Museum of Contemporary Art, the Media Museum, the Institute for Visual Media, the Institute for Music and Acoustics and the Institute for Media, Education, and Economics.

The ZKM Museum of Contemporary Art is an internationally renowned space for confrontation with contemporary art: path-breaking European and American works provide insight into the artistic developments from 1960 to the present.

The ZKM Media Museum is the world’s first and only museum for interactive art. Its thematic spectrum covers such areas as interactive film, simulation techniques for Cyberspace and the use of latest software applications on the Internet.

The ZKM Institute for Music and Acoustics will conduct a project in artistic research entitled “exploring_space”. The aim of the project is to expand the existing possibilities of sound projection at the ZKM_Klangdom through the integration of new technologies.

The ZKM Institute for Visual Media is a forum for the creative and critical discussion of the constantly changing media culture.
Since its foundation in 1991, it has been one of the leading international institutes for research and production at the intersection of digital art and information technology.

The Center for Art and Media studies new media in theory and practice, tests their potential with in-house developments, presents possible uses in exemplary form and promotes debate on the form our information society is taking. Working closely with the State Academy for Design in Karlsruhe and other institutes, the Center for Art and Media provides a forum for science, art, politics, and science.

Curating Asia, 9-10.12.11, ZKM Karlsruhe

GAM – Global Art and the Museum was initiated by Peter Weibel and Hans Belting in 2006 at ZKM Center for Art and Media Karlsruhe. The project represents a first attempt at documenting the contested boundaries of today’s art world; its aim is to spark a debate on how the globalization process changes the art scene and to undertake a critical review of the development 20 years after its onset.

ZKM AUDIO VISUAL

The “Working with immersive audiovisual Environments”  Seminar from July 17 – 21, 2013. Students of the faculty of Media Art at the HfG show works which were emerged at the seminar “Working with immersive audiovisual environments” by Prof. Bernd Lintermann (ZKM | Institute for Visual Media) and Prof. Ludger Brümmer (ZKM | Institute for Music and Acoustics). The works were developed for the 360° projection environment with discrete 8-channel audio of the ZKM_PanoramaLab.
